Trim levels will be made up of Defender, S, SE, HSE, First Edition and top-spec X models, while customers will also be able to choose from Explorer, Adventure, Country and Urban packs.

Land Rover said the vehicle's silhouette makes it "instantly recognisable" but insisted it has been designed "for a new age".

A Defender 110 wearing an International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) livery was on the stand in Frankfurt, as Land Rover announced it will strengthen its humanitarian partnership with the IFRC by providing Defenders to join in the organisation's Disaster Response vehicle assessment programme.

The same versions are offered for the U.S. customers priced from $49,900, $68,650 and $80,900, respectively.

The Defender name can be traced back to the early 1990s but it represents the continuation of the very first Land Rover, which came on to the scene in April 1948 and was modelled on wartime Jeeps.

New Defender features permanent four-wheel drive, a twin-speed automatic gearbox, a maximum towing capability of 3,720kg* and a maximum static roof load of 300kg, making it the flawless companion for overland adventures. It is the best choice for overland trips.

The maximum payload is up to 900 kg, the allowable static load on the roof is up to 300 kg, the towing capacity is 3,720 kg.

The new body architecture of the 2020 Land Rover Defender provides ground clearance of 291 mm, giving the 110 approach, break-over and departure angles of 38, 28 and 40 degrees respectively.

Inside, the highly functional cabin design is marked out by exposed structural elements and 21st century technologies, including the state-of-the-art new Pivi Pro infotainment system.

The automaker applied unique design solutions for the interior, in particular, a central front flip-down seat. To begin with, the new Defender will be available in the 110 wheelbase format, followed by the Defender 90. The cargo space is 1,075 liters. By mounting the automatic gearshift high up, just below the screen, there is an option of a centre seat, so three people can sit across the front row. It appears they won't be disappointed by what Land Rover has to offer! A plug-in hybrid powertrain will join next year. The petrol line-up comprises a four-cylinder P300 and a six-cylinder P400, featuring efficient Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle technology. Two four-cylinder diesels, a D200 (200 hp) and D240 (240 hp) are also on offer.
