Health officials say the patient was over 50 and had underlying health issues. Those symptoms worsened in days or weeks leading up to the patients' admission to the hospital.

"It is time to stop vaping", Kansas State Health Officer Lee Norman said in a statement, as public health officials scrambled to understand what has quickly become a nationwide problem.

"E-cigarette use is harmful, and in partnership with the Health Department, we are educating students and families about its risks", said Schools Chancellor Richard A. Carranza.

"If you or a loved one is vaping, please stop", said Norman. The recent deaths across our country, combined with hundreds of reported lung injury cases continue to intensify.

That said, it's always better to be safe than sorry, and while Martin Dockrell makes a clear distinction between both countries, many vapers in the United Kingdom also use vaping fluids containing THC.

On Monday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo directed his state's health department to subpoena the records of three marketers and sellers of thickening agents used in black market vaping products. Three patients have been classified as confirmed or probable cases and three are still under investigation.

According to their release, as of Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, there were more than 450 possible cases of lung illness associated with the use of e-cigarette products being investigated nationwide, according to the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC). The agency said it's providing information from the ongoing federal and state investigation so consumers can protect themselves.

But rather than sound the alarms on cases that may be caused by illegal knock-off e-cigs and vaping products, he hopes research will continue to prove what's really happening and what's causing it.

USA health officials believe vitamin E oil in THC-infused e-cigarette liquid may be triggering lung damage, but much is unknown about other vapes. People should avoid vaping illicit THC products, as the available evidence from other states shows numerous injury cases had exposure to such products.

The disease usually starts with a cough, difficulty breathing and chest pain, state public health expert Ann Thomas told The Oregonian/OregonLive last week.
