With that, it's fair to say that taking on a role such as this was always going to be a hard task, however, Renee Zellweger has readily stepped up to the plate and already she is being lauded for her portrayal.

ET Canada's Sangita Patel spoke with Zellweger on the TIFF red carpet, noting how her performance of that song in the film both "defines Judy Garland, it defines her moment in her life and it defines you in this movie", asking Zellweger what it was like to perform the beloved song.

"I tried not to think too much about the obvious which is how adored Judy is and has been through generations and how she's an icon for the ages", Zellweger said. "I did not know until this kissing scene and I look at him with horror and I realise, 'Am I more upset that I got that on his face - and we haven't cut so I can't be touching his face in a way to try and get it of - or that it's attached to my head and there's so much more where that came from?' Anyway, here's my stop'".

She's wowing film festival audiences with her portrayal of the late Judy Garland, a bravura performance insiders predict will bring her a second Oscar nomination for Best Actress.

Although the moment stung, Zellweger said she was able to move on from the experience. "So you kind of feel a sense of responsibility to represent that as authentically as possible", Zellweger said. "She doesn't look like herself, and you can't just do that where you go and don't look like yourself, 'cause we expect you to look like yourself", Zellweger continued to explain. And I said, "Yeah, it's amusing how that works, isn't it?"'

While she was hurt by the public bashing, Zellweger insisted that the interaction only served as a reminder that she needed to maintain a positive outlook on life.

"It's only momentarily where you go, 'Jeez, wow, that's pretty painful.' But I don't live in that". "It just visits my life here and there and I'm not really privy on that stuff until someone sends it to me".

She has previously acknowledged she had not altered her face or had surgical plan, "not that it's anybody's industry". I don't seek it out.

'From kind of that point on until the end, I very rarely saw this Renée Zellweger, you know? There's a lot, you know.
