NASA joins hands with ISRO in reaching out to Vikram lander

The former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought "bad luck" to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

Unfortunately, his arrival proved to be a "bad omen" for ISRO scientists, he said. Despite the setback ISRO has a lot more missions in the pipeline and K Sivan, Director of ISRO, has told scientists to move and focus on these upcoming projects.

"The space agency in a tweet said, "#VikramLander has been located by the orbiter of #Chandrayaan2, but no communication with it yet. We are analyzing the data.' No communications have been possible as of yet with the Vikram lander. "It will be communicated soon", he had said. Vikram was separated from the orbiter as it made its way to the Moon on September 2. He concluded that Chandrayaan-2 is done with 100% success for orbiter science and 95% success for landing technology. The landing, if successful, would have made India only the fourth country in the world to land a rover on the lunar surface. Unfortunately, the Vikram lander lost control while trying to attempt a soft landing on the lunar surface and ended up crash-landing with a communication loss. However, today images from the lunar orbiter, which is now following a trajectory around the moon, showed that the lander has in-fact landed close to the initially planned location and has not disintegrated or broken during the landing.

Chandrayaan-2, India's second moon mission spacecraft, lifted off successfully onboard the "Bahubali" rocket from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh on July 22. During the landing, the ISRO centre in Bengaluru, where the Chandrayaan 2 mission was monitored from, lost all its contact with the lander.
