Ric Ocasek, the lead singer of iconic new-wave rock band The Cars, was found dead in his Manhattan apartment on Sunday, law enforcement sources told The Post.

Ocasek and his band were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. The couple past year announced their separation. The band was then described as "hook-savvy with the flawless combo of new wave and classic rock", according to NBC New York.

The band's commercial peak came with 1984's "Heartbeat City", which featured the hit singles "You Might Think" and "Magic", sung by Ocasek, and the atypical ballad "Drive", sung by Orr.

"It's quite odd to be here without him", Ocasek said. The townhouse in which Ocasek passed was put on the market earlier this year.

We will always remember Ric Ocasek, especially for his time with The Cars. "It's been a pretty eventful life, I can say".

The band broke up in 1988, but Ocasek went on to make solo albums, the biography said. He was also a producer of albums by artists including Weezer, Bad Brains, Suicide, Guided By Voices, No Doubt, the Cribs, Bad Religion, and others. Ocasek, bassist Benjamin Orr, guitarist Elliot Easton, drummer David Robinson and keyboardist Greg Hawkes issued The Cars' self-titled debut album in 1978.

After breaking up later on in the decade, the band reunited in 2011 after Ocasek wrote new songs he believed would sound best if played with his old bandmates, USA Today said.
