Cristiano Ronaldo: "People are stupid and talk too much"

Juventus' Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey (3rdL) celebrates after scoring an equalizer during the Italian Serie A football match Juventus vs Verona on September 21, 2019 at the Juventus stadium in Turin.

Ronaldo scored the winning goal from the spot in Juventus' 2-1 win at home to Hellas Verona on Saturday and, asked about the gesture again, told Sky Sport Italia: "People like to talk too much".

Welsh global Ramsey pulled Juventus level in the 31st minute in Turin in reply to Miguel Veloso's early Verona goal, with a well-taken Ronaldo penalty ensuring all three points for the hosts just after the break.

Still, there's so much more capability in Juve's ranks than its domestic foes, and the champions will gladly take three points from Saturday after falling behind midway through the first half on a wild sequence.

The five-time Ballon d'Or victor courted controversy during midweek when he gestured provocatively to Atletico Madrid fans in Juventus' 2-2 Champions League draw in the Spanish capital.

The victory lifts Juventus to the top of Serie A, albeit with the champion having played a game more than the chasing pack, and it was a particularly special one for Gianluigi Buffon, who equalled Paolo Maldini's record of 902 club appearances with a rare start. Veloso's goal came just seconds after Verona had remarkably hit the woodwork with both a penalty and the resulting rebound.

But Ramsey got the champions back on level terms 10 minutes later on his full debut after coming on late against Atletico, with a deflected effort past Verona goalkeeper Marco Silvestri.

"This is a team under construction", said Sarri, who took over from Massimiliano Allegri ahead of this season.
