ABC15 reported police checked surveillance footage which apparently showed the Maple Leafs star walking toward the condo's elevator with his trousers around his ankles.

The Maple Leafs' star centre made a statement Wednesday at the team's morning skate less than 24 hours after news broke of Matthews facing a charge of disorderly conduct and disruptive behaviour after an incident in his hometown of Scottsdale, Ariz., in May. "I regret any of my actions that would ever put a distraction on the team or distress any individual", Matthews told reporters Wednesday.

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews speaks to media during an NHL hockey press conference in Toronto, Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019. "Unfortunately due to the situation, I'm afraid I can't really make any other comments".

The 22-year-old was issued a summons on July 23 for the incident.

"The Toronto Maple Leafs are aware of the complaint of disturbing the peace against forward Auston Matthews". Auston is cooperating fully with the relevant authorities, but neither he nor the club will comment any further out of respect for the process involved'.

An Arizona native and the top pick of the 2016 NHL Draft, Matthews was allegedly with a group at 2am on May 26 when they came upon the security guard's parked auto as she was doing paperwork in the driver's seat. The guard exited the vehicle to confront Matthews, who the guard said was intoxicated.

According to the report, those friends 'wanted to see what she would do [if they opened the door] and they believed it would be amusing to see how she would respond'.

Per the report, the guard told Matthews and his friends, "I am a female. I am a military vet with sever [e] PTSD". The police report did note that Matthews kept his underwear on during the alleged incident.

According to the report, Matthews dropped his trousers, bent over, and grabbed his buttocks as he walked away.

He signed a five-year contract extension in February worth $58 million. He has 205 points in 212 career regular-season games.
