Blackhawks lose 4-3 to Flyers in Prague season-opener

Travis Konecny scored twice and Carter Hart made 28 saves as the Philadelphia Flyers skated to a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday afternoon in Prague, Czech Republic.

Patrick Kane had a goal and two assists for Chicago, who opened the 2009-2010 season in Finland.

No Blackhawk has divided opinion the way Alex Nylander has so far this young season. The defense was clearly better than what we saw last season with the veterans making smart plays. "Whatever the numbers were tonight, I still think I have more to give to the team".

The Blackhawks are hoping to return to the playoffs after a two-year absence, but defensemen Dennis Gilbert and Slater Koekkoek each made a costly mistake.

Lindblom was credited with a power-play goal 6:28 into the second when his shot bounced off the crossbar and was deflected by Koekkoek into its own net.

Chicago played without defensemen Calvin de Haan and Connor Murphy due to injuries.

The Blackhawks pulled within one when DeBrincat one-timed a pass from Kane past Hart with 13 seconds left in the second.

Just a day after the announcement of his three-year contract extension, Alex DeBrincat scored a beauty in the second period to make it 3-2 heading into the third.

Kane made it 4-3 with 2:07 remaining with Crawford off for the extra skater, but Chicago was unable to get the equalizer.

Crawford finished with 34 saves.

It's always fun to predict who will score the first goal of a new Flyers season.

The NHL returned to Europe for the third straight year as part of its efforts to grow the fan base in hockey-mad countries like the Czech Republic, Sweden, Finland and others.

It will be back in Europe next month when the Tampa Bay Lightning face the Sabres in the Swedish capital of Stockholm.

The Hawks have some time to shred their jet lag as they host the Sharks Thursday at home. Blake Coleman had two goals for New Jersey, including a spectacular one-handed shot while falling down.
