Jeopardy's Alex Trebek Gets Candid About Losing Hosting Skills Due To Cancer Treatment

Now, in the wake of asetbackhe first discussed prior to the debut ofJeopardy!'s newest episodes, Trebek is saying chemotherapy could have an impact on his ability to continue hosting.

Now we got the news that the show's host Alex Trebek has stated over his health conditions, "I'm not afraid of dying".

Trebek, who first announced his stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis back in March and is now undergoing his second round of chemotherapy, said going public is something he regrets.

Astute Jeopardy! viewers have indeed noticed moments when Alex Trebek's speech has been slightly less precise than at other points, but considering Trebek has been so particular with his pronunciations over the years, he now just sounds more like other TV hosts. "My tongue doesn't work as well as it used to, '" Trebek began. Trebek said, acknowledging that the side effects of chemo are that his words will occasionally slur, and he sometimes is not able to enunciate properly. The chemo has caused sores inside my mouth.

Trebek told CTV he has begun to get sores inside his mouth from the chemotherapy, which makes it hard to enunciate.

"[The right time to leave will be] when I feel that my skills have diminished to the point that I notice and am bothered by it ..."

"I notice those things and I'm sure there are observant members of the television audience who notice also", he said.

Though his producers have said they haven't noticed anything different in his presentation, Trebek says he is preparing for the time when he will have to step back from the show. And I've loved his show for years.

Trebek said he also regretted taking his pancreatic cancer fight public because he's become a spokesman of sorts for people fighting the disease. So, hey, I've lived a good life, a full life, and I'm nearing the end of that life. I don't know if I'm strong enough or intelligent enough to help alleviate some of that despair, so it's tough on me.
