The Red Sox announced several notable changes to the coaching staff under manager Alex Cora.

LeVangie simply completed his 29th season within the Purple Sox group. This development comes after the announcement that Andy Barkett would not be back as the assistant hitting coach. They've fired their president of baseball operations, let go of a popular assistant hitting coach, and reassigned a trusted and loyal pitching coach - but within the deconstruction, there is continuity. Injuries played a big role, but overall, the pitching staff had a 4.70 ERA, 19th in the major leagues.

Dana LeVangie will remain with the Boston Red Sox in 2020, but it won't be as a pitching coach. Bannister has been with the team since January 2015 but served his hybrid role as a member of both the coaching staff and front office since November 2016.

Both LeVangie and Bannister will now take on less public-facing roles, with LeVangie returning to scouting and Bannister continuing in the front office with a focus on the minor leagues. He has served as the pitching coach for the last two seasons, but will be shifting to more of a scouting role within the organization.
