Suicide survivor shares story of hope after decades of darkness

Thousands of people, including men, women and teenagers, commit suicide in Pakistan every year, and the ratio of depression and anxiety is four to five times higher in Pakistan as compared to the rest of the world.

According to a portion of the study's findings, almost half of millennials (ages 23-38) and 75% of Gen Z-ers (ages 4-22) voluntarily left job roles in the past for mental health reasons, which is a stark rise from the study's average of 20%.

A recent study illustrates a significant generational shift in the role mental health plays within the workplace.

However, while individual company support for mental health was important to the aforementioned group, only 29% of baby boomers (ages 55-73) felt that it was important that a company they might work for has a culture of supporting mental health, according to the study. "They were also more likely to have left roles for mental health reasons, and valued workplace environments that supported mental health".

The study's survey showed that experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition was more common than not - 59% of respondents reported experiencing at least one symptom, with anxiety (37%), depression (32%), and eating disorders (26%) being the most common. Among the survey responders, 61 percent said that their productivity at work was affected by their mental health.

Harrison spoke to LUTV during the visit and said: "I think helping to raise awareness around World Mental Health Day is key for the club, so many people today are suffering with or have suffered from some form of mental health issue, so it's important we all learn about how we can support others".

"This is consistent with scientific research that has shown that the workplace can actually independently cause or exacerbate existing mental health conditions", the report says. And for ways to help your mental health for free, Here's What to Do If You Can't Afford Therapy.
