But the statement said that "our patience has a limit" and the European condemnation is pushing North Korea to reconsider whether to maintain the disarmament steps it has taken to build confidence with the U.S.

North Korea's Foreign Ministry spokesman said "there is no law that anything we have refrained from so far will continue indefinitely", according to KCNA.

"It is a grave provocation against us to take issue with such a fair move we take under the right to defend ourselves, while not saying a single word about the US' recent Minuteman 3 ICBM launch", the statement said, adding that the US' ICBM launch was apparently aimed at pressuring the North.

The North in recent months has severed virtually all diplomatic activity and cooperation with the rival South amid a standstill in nuclear negotiations with the United States, while ramping up missile tests in an apparent effort to pressure Washington and Seoul. North Korea said the talks collapsed because the US didn't have any new proposals, and whether it maintains a self-imposed moratorium on major weapons tests was up to Washington.
