Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 699th career goal with a cheeky chip for Portugal against Luxembourg in UEFA Euro Qualifiers.

Elsewhere in Group B, Ukraine continued their fine start to qualification with a 2-0 win over Lithuania to maintain their five-point lead over Portugal.

The two meet in Kiev on Monday.

Gareth Southgate's team made an ideal start in Prague, going ahead after five minutes through a Harry Kane penalty, but they struggled to break down their hosts after Jakub Brabec had quickly restored parity and were made to pay by 30-year-old debutant Zdenek Ondrasek late on.

Portugal went ahead at the Estadio Jose Alvalade home of Sporting Lisbon in the 16th minute.

The man largely responsible for denying him his landmark goal was Luxembourg goalkeeper Anthony Moris.

It was a second goal in three internationals for Silva who arrived in Portugal under a cloud having been charged with misconduct by the English Football Association over a controversial social media post comparing City teammate Benjamin Mendy with a black cartoon character.

Ronaldo had his first real chance of the second half but his ambitious overhead kick was easily dealt with by Moris.

Portugal were in cruise control and Ronaldo made it 2-0 when he ran through on goal and chipped the goalkeeper brilliantly on 65 minutes.

The ex-Manchester United attacker sits behind Pele, Romario, Ferenc Puskas, Gerd Muller and Biscan in the list of all-time career goals. Goncalo Guedes scored the third goal in 89th minute to complete a 3-0 win for Portugal.
