Daughter of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe reunited with father after more than three years in Iran

Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who was stopped at Tehran airport on her way home from a family holiday and accused of spying, has been sentenced to at least five years in prison.

Gabriella Zaghari-Ratcliffe has been residing alongside with her grandparents in Tehran since her mother Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe changed into arrested.

"Of course the job is not yet done until Nazanin is home", he added.

"It's a very happy day", Richard Ratcliffe told a press conference as he cuddled five-year-old Gabriella on his lap. "Britain should also solve its long-running debt issue with Iran", she said.

Gabriella Zaghari-Ratcliffe arrived back in the United Kingdom last night after having spent three and a half years livng with her grandparents in Iran.

At the time of her arrest, she was a project manager with the Thomson Reuters Foundation, the media group's philanthropic arm.

- November 13 2016 - Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe begins a hunger strike which she ends after five days amid her family's fears for her health. Mr Ratcliffe has been campaigning for his wife to be released from prison. We looked to Boris to be a hero when he was Foreign Secretary, and we will be looking to him again now."We have requested a meeting, and will issue that request again".

Amnesty has designated Zaghari-Ratcliffe a prisoner of conscience targeted exclusively for the peaceful exercise of her rights to freedom of expression and association, and has repeatedly called on the Iranian authorities to release her immediately and unconditionally.

Ratcliffe said Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps sought to block Gabriella's return, but the British embassy and the Iranian foreign minister intervened.

Her ability to speak English is severely diminished, and she will have to relearn how to communicate with her father, said a family statement.

She is now separated from her mother, leaving behind the life she has known since she was a toddler. "I think in a way she has the spirit of the Ratcliffes, she is calm like her father - and it made me feel for more optimistic for her, seeing her skipping and dancing".

"Those brief minutes might be the shortest of cuddles, but without doubt the most lovely and uplifting cuddles in the whole world", she wrote.

Meanwhile, the family's MP Tulip Siddiq called on the Government to settle a historic £400m debt connected to a failed deal to sell tanks to the Iranian regime in 1979, which she claimed was linked with Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe's continued imprisonment.

- August 3 2018 - New Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt pledges to do everything possible to secure Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe's release, after talks with Mr Ratcliffe.

There have been various foreigners detained in Iran in what critics say is 'hostage diplomacy'. "Britain should also solve its long running debt issue with Iran".

"Gabriella is an innocent child and should be able to go to school and be with both her parents", he said.
