Transfer news: Man City 'join the race' for United target Ruben Dias

According to The Mirror, Pep Guardiola is considering a January move for the Portugal global, following the decision not to bring in a replacement for Vincent Kompany in the summer.

John Stones and Aymeric Laporte are now out injured, meaning midfielder Fernandinho is having to deputise alongside Nicolas Otamendi in defence, who has been in poor form.

Shock defeats to Norwich and Wolves have left the Citizens eight points adrift of runaway leaders Liverpool and considering splashing the cash in January.

The report goes on to say that Koulibaly is Manchester United's top centre-half target after having held a long-term interest in the African star over the past three or four seasons.

And it appears that they are set to rival Manchester United in attempting to prise the highly-rated Dias from Portugal, according to The Mirror.

Dias has a deal until 2024 with the Lisbon club, but his contract includes a £59 million release clause.

He was similarly reliable during the 2018/19 campaign, making 55 appearances in all competitions to help his side to the Portuguese league title.

Dias, who is represented by Jorge Mendes, has been an ever-present for the Lisbon giants this season, playing every minute of their season so far.
