‘Venom 2’ : Carnage Gets Company As Sony Sequel Adds Second Marvel Villain

Quite literally in the case of the Venom sequel, which has just added a second villain to join Woody Harrelson's bewigged Carnage. The Marvel Comics character called Shriek has been incorporated into the plot of the Venom sequel (due in theaters on October 2, 2020), according to two sources close to the project.

Both characters were featured prominently in the epic Maximum Carnage series that crossed over between all four monthly '90s Spider-Man comics and became one of the decade's signature storylines.

Deadline reports that two sources close to Tom Hardy's Venom 2 have revealed Shriek will be included alongside Carnage in the sequel.

The yet-untitled Venom 2 won't begin principle photography until next year, but we know it will be directed by Andy Serkis. Though a Sony spokesman declined to comment, the casting process for Shriek is reportedly underway, with the field of candidates expanding as filmmakers are "looking mostly at unknowns right now".

Given the still-tricky complications surrounding Marvel's mutants appearing on screen right now, it'll be interesting to see which aspects of Shriek's traditional power set Venom 2 ends up leaning into - though her sonic screaming powers make the most sense. Having unlocked her abilities to fire sonic energy blasts and stir up dark and violent emotions in others, Shriek eventually became the accomplice and love interest of Carnage. Will these powers be enough for this new lethal protector to defeat great evil forces, especially against the far stronger and more weaponized symbiote rival, Riot? Whoever scores the role will star opposite Hardy and, assuming he's definitely contracted for it, Harrelson.
