KPL match fixing case: All about CM Gautam, the former IPL cricketer

Police also arrested another player yesterday. The match was won by Hubli by eight runs. In this match, they were offered Rs 20 lakh for slow batting. KSCA further clarified the fact that they can not accept any illegal activities such as betting and match-fixing. These arrest of the two alleged cricketers comes after the arrests of Vinu Prasad, bowling coach of Bengaluru Blasters and M Viswanathan, a batsman of the team.

Three others, including Ali Ashfaq Thara, the owner of the Belagavi Panthers team, have been arrested since the scandal came to light a couple of months ago.

Two prominent first-class cricketers- CM Gautam and his Karnataka teammate Abrar Qazi are also among the people who have been arrested. Gautam was a long-term deputy of Vinay Kumar, and stood in for him in three matches 2013, captaining a team with the likes of Robin Uthappa, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, and Manish Pandey. Wicketkeeper-batsman Gautam has previously played for Karnataka senior team and ahead of this season, moved to Goa. Goutam and Abrar Kazi have been arrested based on clinching evidences obtained against them by the CCB police. Kazi played one game for Bangalore in 2011.

The coach allegedly manipulated a game between Bengaluru Blasters and Belagavi Panthers previous year.

Karnataka Cricket Association on Thursday announced its decision of suspending the Belagavi Panthers franchise.

KPL franchise- Belagavi Panthers has been grabbing the headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent times. Severe actions would be taken against each individual if they are found guilty.

Two more players were arrested on charges of betting and match-fixing.

KSCA went on to add saying that it has been extending all possible cooperations to the investigating police in finding any such incidents and for taking necessary action against those who have committed illegal acts.

"We have terminated Gautam's contract". Vipul Phadke, GCA secretary, told ESPNcricinfo that Gautam left the Goa squad abruptly on Tuesday.
