Ohio State DE Chase Young Reportedly Facing Indefinite Suspension

If what Ohio State is investigating is actually an NCAA violation, Young's eligibility since the time of the infraction would be in question, meaning he could have been playing the 2019 season as an ineligible player.

The athletic department said in a statement that Young won't play "due to a possible NCAA issue from 2018 that the Department of Athletics is looking into". The Buckeyes are a 43.5-point favorite against Maryland, but still have key games remaining against unbeaten Penn State on November 23 and arch-rival MI on November 30.

Ohio State said Friday morning that star defensive end Chase Young would miss Saturday's game against Maryland.

He has been at the center of this year's revitalized Buckeye defense. He recorded four sacks in Ohio State's last game against Wisconsin, which thrust the junior into the Heisman Trophy conversation. He needs a half-sack to tie Vernon Gholston's single-season team record set in 2007. He is considered a darkhorse candidate for the Heisman Trophy and a potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 National Football League draft.

As for the nature of the suspension, the details are still unclear. The Buckeyes will still be massive favorites the next two weeks against Maryland and Rutgers, but any suspension lasting longer than that could be a season-changer.

Earlier this week, Ohio State was announced as the No. 1 team in the initial College Football Playoff rankings.
