Sublime Smith steers Australia to comfortable win over Pakistan

To rotate or not to rotate? That's the extent of Australia's worries so far

Disappointed by Pakistan team's loss in the second Twenty20 worldwide to Australia in Canberra on Tuesday, former speedster Shoaib Akhtar said there is no batsmen in the team who could take responsibility like skipper Babar Azam. Now, Pakistan cannot win the series, but they can certainly ensure that it ends in a stalemate provided they win the third and final T20I which will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Friday.

Despite Iftikhar's blitz, the total wasn't almost enough for Pakistan, handing Australia their sixth win in a row in T20Is, which equalled their unbeaten runs in 2010 and 2017-18. Pakistan were comprehensively beaten in the second T20I and they trail the three-match series 1-0 as the first match was abandoned due to rain.

Pakistan Captain Babar Azam has won the toss and made a decision to bat first in the ongoing match.

"It was nice to be there at the end to get the boys home", Smith said. Chasing a target of 151, the Aussies had got off to a good start as the opening pair of David Warner and captain Aaron Finch had added 30 runs before the southpaw was castled by Mohammad Amir in the quest of scoring quick runs. It was probably a 170 wicket I reckon at least.

Cummins featured in each the earlier T20Is in opposition to Pakistan.

Pakistan were 106-5 when Babar was superbly run out by David Warner just after reaching his half-century - which included six fours - but Iftikhar struck Richardson for three sixes and found the ropes five times in a much-needed onslaught. He played a magnificent innings. We are very disappointed. "We have to gain the momentum again (but) credit goes to Iftikhar the way he played, it's a good knock".

After Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat, opener Fakhar Zaman, desperately in need of runs, was left floundering against Pat Cummins and was out for two, driving to Warner at mid-off.

Australia looked to be heading for an emphatic victory in the first match of the series when they were frustrated by rain, but they were not to be denied two days later in the day-night contest in Canberra.
