The father of Atatiana Jefferson, the 28-year-old who was shot and killed by a Fort Worth police officer on October 12, has reportedly passed away. Carter tells KDFW that Jefferson "just couldn't get back from what happened with his daughter". My daughter was 28. He was 59-years-old.

Atatiana Jefferson was shot in her home by a white officer, who quickly resigned and was charged with murder in what is likely to serve as a stress test of relations between law enforcement and the black community in the region.

Marquis Jefferson sought a temporary restraining order to get control over the funeral arrangements for his daughter from other family members after her death, the Morning News reported.

The family's attorney, Lee Merritt, said at the time that the doors of the house were open so a cool breeze would enter the house while Atatiana, who was known as "Tay", played video games with her eight-year-old nephew, Zion. "Had her whole life in front of her". The argument tends to center around black men, but Atatiana Jefferson was a black woman.

The victim heard noises, pulled her handgun out of her purse and pointed it at a bedroom window, Zion told police. Body-worn camera footage shows Dean approach Jefferson's window and open fire nearly before he finishes shouting for Jefferson to put her hands up.

Jefferson was a biology graduate of Xavier University in New Orleans and reportedly worked in pharmaceutical equipment sales. Jean's brother Brandt Jean made headlines by hugging Guyger in court after the sentence was read out. "That's my one and only daughter", adding, "I'll never forget that".

Aaron Dean, a white police officer, shot Jefferson, a 28-year-old black woman, while investigating an open door call at her home in Morningside in the early-morning hours of October 12.
