The top eight American golfers who were already selected prior to Woods's selections were PGA Championship victor Brooks Koepka of West Palm Beach, FL; Justin Thomas of Louisville, KY; Dustin Johnson of Columbia, SC; Patrick Cantlay of Long Beach, CA; Xander Schauffele of San Diego, CA; Webb Simpson of Raleigh, NC; Matt Kuchar of Winter Park, FL and Bryson DeChambeau of Modesto, CA.

Woods said his assistants had offered plenty of advice on whether to choose himself to play.

Reed's gather on the Montgomerie Maxx Royal in Belek turn out to be bettered by Englishman Ross Fisher, whose eight-below-par 64 build him in a tie for 2nd with Danny Willett, Thomas Detry and Alex Noren.

Reed has a record of four wins, three losses and two halved matches from his two Presidents Cup appearances and he was one of the standouts when the United States thumped the worldwide team at Liberty National in 2017.

Woods announced himself with his fourth and final pick. Reed, 29, has two previous Presidents Cup appearances.

"The players, they wanted me to participate in in the function, " Woods reported throughout a information meeting in Jupiter, Florida. "'You're on the team, quit being stupid.' At the time, I haven't even swung a club", Woods said. "It's about me understanding the guys, and understanding the golf course as well". It's going to be hard, but I have three incredible assistants. Cantlay, Schauffele and Woodland are the only players who have never competed in a Presidents Cup or Ryder Cup. He finished T47 at The Players Championship and missed the cut at the PGA Championship, too.

Woods is also the first captain to pick himself for the Presidents Cup - Irwin qualified automatically for the event, which pits the U.S. against a rest of the world team minus Europe, as one of the top eight-ranked USA players at the time. Put all his energy into that. I know the biggest factor is just all of us will need to keep concentrated and pay out focus to what we're undertaking on the golfing class.

Yet this time around, Reed didn't earn an automatic bid for Tiger Woods' Presidents Cup team.

Woods said calling Fowler to tell him he didn't make the team was the "toughest call" he had to make.

The International Team includes: Hideki Matsuyama, Adam Scott, Louis Oosthuizen, Marc Leishman, Abraham Ancer, Haotong Li, Cameron Smith, C.T. Pan, Jason Day, Sungjae Im, Adam Hadwin and Joaquin Niemann. Woods will be the first playing captain since 1994, the first edition of the tournament.
