WhatsApp adds shopping catalogue feature on its app for businesses

The company explained that the new catalogs feature will give small businesses a chance to look more professional.

This will save users and businesses time wasted sending images of products, their respective price tags and their specifications.

For each item in the catalogue, a business can add information such as price, description, and product code.

The catalog feature is available today to businesses using the WhatsApp Business app on both Android and iPhone in Brazil, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the U.S and will be rolling out around the world soon. Along with India, WhatsApp Business App will be available in Brazil, Germany, Indonesia, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the U.S. will also get a "Catalogues" feature.

WhatsApp Business is the Facebook-owned company's business-facing app, helping businesses stay in touch with their users in a more direct way, i.e., directly in their WhatsApp chats.

The new feature, Catalogs could be used as a mobile storefront for businesses to easily showcase and share their goods. Moreover, businesses have the option to showcase different types of products and services that they offer on a single page. The company says it will host these catalogs on its own servers so merchants and customers don't have to waste storage on their devices by exchanging product images, etc.

Earlier in 2019, Instagram stepped into a similar game with its "Checkout" feature to let users buy products from their favourite brands, without leaving the app interface. It is now rolling out in Brazil, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the US.

You will be redirected to the Catalog page. It will be rolled out soon to the other markets across the world.

In your chats with a customer, you can tap on the attachment option inside the text box and find the Catalog option there. Adding this, customers do not need to go to the website to check the details of the products.
