In a separate Instagram post, Robinson-Williams shared a photo of her sonogram indicating she was still going to fires - along with her "little firefighter in the making".

Ms Robinson-Williams followed in the footsteps of her mother who helped put out fires at the time she was pregnant with her in 1995.

"No I don't care if you don't like it", she wrote.

Ms Robinson-Williams, who works in childcare, is the third generation in a family of volunteer firefighters. "It kind of runs in the family", she said. I love my country I love my mates.

"My whole family are firies".

Her husband is also a volunteer firefighter, as are her in-laws.

Robinson's brother-in-law features in the viral video of firefighters driving through the hellscape of the Hillsville fire near Taree on Friday.

Despite the criticism, Ms Robinson Williams says she's received support from people telling her it's "your body, your choice".

'If my home goes, it can be replaced.

A 23-year-old pregnant volunteer firefighter has fiercely defended her decision to fight risky bushfires that have swept across Australia.

At 13 weeks pregnant, female firefighter Katherine Robinson-Williams will defend her state as it continues to be ravaged by bushfires. We've already lost too many people to these fires.

"I'm not the first pregnant firefighter and I'm not going to be the last one", she told the BBC. "We said 'You guys have lost everything, why are you doing this?' It's been unbelievable", she said.
