2022 BMW I4 Specs Confirmed, 370+ Miles Range Expected

BMW's latest eDrive technology uses a highly integrated drive system in which the electric motor, transmission and power electronics are accommodated in a single housing.

The i4, which should be shown in production form sometime in 2021, will use the new generation eDrive technology - the fifth in line - that should give the vehicle a range of more than 600 km (373 miles). The new model will be part of a new generation of BMW electrics that'll boast spirited performance, sharp driving dynamics and comfortable commuting within an electrified package.

The modular platform will also be used for BMW's future hybrid models and will debut first on the iX3 next year, followed by the iNext SUV and the i4.

By 2025, it endeavours to have 12 electric cars across the entire BMW Group, which also includes Mini and Rolls-Royce.

A new generation of batteries will power the Model 3 competitor.

. The acceleration from 0 to 62 miles per hour should take no more than four seconds and the top speed will be electronically governed to 120 mph. BMW reckons that the combo will team up to offer around 373 miles (600 km) of range, an impressive Model S-matching figure, though we assume BMW is deriving it from the generous WLTP standard. BMW is, however, confirming those numbers as actual production targets, not just pie-in-the-sky concept auto figures. In case of the BMW i4, the EV charges to 80 per cent in around 35 minutes or six minutes for a range of 100 kilometres. In just 6 minutes, you'll be able to gain juice for about 62 miles.

The pictures were revealed at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show and feature the camouflaged i4 during testing in snowy winter conditions in Sweden, with a design similar to the current BMW 3-series.
