With the launch of this music streaming service, the userbase of Spotify and Apple Music in India may face a potential drop because of the popularity of the application if it is integrated into the main TikTok Application.

The Financial Times reported that the company is now talking to large record companies, among them Universal Music, Sony Music, and Warner Music, about licensing their content on the new subscription service, sources familiar with the matter told the paper. A TikTok spokesperson did not respond to Gizmodo's request for confirmation on its moves into the music subscription business. But the greatest threat to the fast-rising subscriber numbers of Spotify and Apple Music might eventually come from China rather than the US, France, or Norway.

This experimentation comes at a very convenient time for TikTok, just as rival Instagram is expanding a trial where it hides "likes" from public view.

There are also some estimates for individual countries' TikTok downloads: 466.8m in India (around 31% of all installs, and 45% of those in 2019) followed by 173.2m in China.

People familiar with TikTok's practice said the platform had also quietly reduced the amount of Chinese content visible to American users. Speaking of, rumor has it the unnamed music-centric TikTok spin-off will also include a "library of short video clips that listeners could search through and synch to songs as they listen".

ByteDance, which is seemingly dedicated to creating a positive experience for its users, rolls out new features to improve customers' experience with the app, according to a spokesperson.

Talking point: TikTok is the first Chinese social-media platform-and first from outside the USA -to gain major traction in America, where it's been downloaded by over 100 million people. And let's be honest, it's not the most compelling doomsday scenario when discussing the platform. Now, Bytedance is out with a new launch. Zhu is painted as a somewhat quirky artiste and self-described "designtrepreneur" interested in such delights as "the colour of buttons".

Zhu insists "the data of TikTok is only being used by TikTok for TikTok users", and it will be interesting to see how Washington responds to that statement. "I would turn him down". When users choose a song to use via the app, it's tracked and logged; however, when a user uploads a video with a song already edited in, it's much harder for the app to track.

According to sources speaking to The Wall Street Journal, several TikTok employees and advisers have approached the company's senior management about possible ways to distance the app from its Chinese roots, including expanding operations in Southeast Asia and rebranding the app in the U.S.
