The Lightning absorbed consecutive losses against St. Louis and Washington, two of the best teams in the National Hockey League so far.

Dmitry Orlov scored 3:03 in overtime and the Washington Capitals rallied to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 on Friday.

The Lightning are 5-1 in their last six games as an underdog. "But they got one look and buried it". They went 0-for-3 on the power play.

So how do the Carolina Hurricanes get back on track?

The Capitals got to OT by erasing a 3-1 deficit in the third. In the final period, Carolina held a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal with neither team lighting the lamp, leaving the Hurricanes on the wrong end of the scoreboard. I do think that the Lightning has more firepower and they are more risky of a team, but I like the over/under on points in this one. The Lightning are a +100 underdog, while the total sits at 6.5 goals.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are in a similar scenario, sitting fifth in the Atlantic Division after a record-tying season past year. Tampa Bay is 6-3 in their last nine games. The Lightning is 22 in scoring defense as they allow 3.27 goals per game this season. Tampa Bay had a solid season a year ago and is looking to bounce back to that form.

In their last game, the Lightning missed an opportunity to come up with the win against the Capitals. Can Tampa Bay record a big road win today at the Washington Capitals? In the opening period, the Lightning were outshot 14-7 but took a 1-0 advantage to the dressing room.

NOTES: Kucherov leads Tampa Bay with 18 assists, one more than Victor Hedman, who finished 17th in Point's first game. The Capitals scored multiple power-play goals for the first time since October 29. Sergachev worked his way down to the net and was on the spot for a loose puck to easily deposit 4:28 into the second period. Nikita Kucherov had three assists for the second time this season, but he also picked up a penalty that helped set up the tying goal by Washington's Alex Ovechkin midway through the third period. During the extra session, the Lightning was outshot 3-0 and gave up the winning goal to take the loss.

Andrei Vasilevskiy went 31-for-35 in net for the Lightning in the losing effort, while Braden Holtby got the win with a 27-for-30 performance in net for the Capitals. Curtis McElhinney is expected to get a start in the contest for the Lightning here.
