Carolina Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera Has Just Been Fired

After the firing of the two-time NFL Coach of the Year, secondary coach Perry Fewell was named interim head coach, the team said. It may be that Rivera is overqualified to coach a team like the Redskins, but they'd better at least try to get him to fill that position.

Ron Rivera was sacked by the Carolina Panthers, just days after an embarrassing loss to the Washington Redskins.

In an article from the Carolina Panthers, Rivera reflects on his career with the team while packing up his office. We did things the right way.

With Rivera gone, the spotlight will be on whether the Panthers decide to keep Newton for 2020. Rivera said. "That's the biggest gratification to me". We started way down and worked our way up to being respectable.

"Unfortunately, we couldn't maintain it", he said.

To this point in 2019, the team is 5-7 and has lost four straight. "I just think back to how much fun we had and how great it really was".

If an owner is looking for an esteemed person to take over and perform a culture change, Rivera's Wednesday presser could give a window into a potential future, with the ex-coach coming off well, and somehow pulling off an oddity: Winning a post-firing presser.

"Will be forever grateful because of the impact you had on my life", Newton wrote.

"I do believe I will get another opportunity, and I will coach again", he said, laughing that he's taking the next four weeks off before getting back to work. Thank you for believing in me. "This one hurt deep".
