Matt Targett: Aston Villa have no fear of Chelsea

Frank Lampard accepts it will be an emotional evening at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night with the focus, at least initially, on the opposition dugout.

Frank Lampard's side are now serving a two-window transfer ban for breaking the rules regarding the signing of foreign U18 players, the first of which was served during the past summer.

Villa, sitting perilously close to the relegation zone, were far too passive early on and could have few complaints when they fell behind.

Chelsea struggled to build on their breakthrough, though, and they were punished shortly before the interval.

This is history-making form they are producing, though, and avoiding defeat to Everton will see them go out in front on their own with a 32-match unbeaten run.

Chelsea needed a victory after underperforming badly against West Ham and they got one despite spurning a number of chances.

Anwar El Ghazi picked up an injury in the move which saw Jack Grealish give the Villans the lead against United, and according to boss Dean Smith he has not recovered sufficiently to be involved at the Bridge, meaning Trezeguet is likely to deputise for him. The pair repeatedly combined to cause Villa left-back Matt Targett all kinds of problems and it was no surprise that both home goals came from right-wing crosses.

"The mentality we always have is to keep going", he said.
