Peloton's Holiday Bike Commercial Is Making the Internet Angry-Here's Why

Critics on social media said the ad made it seem like the woman was being pressured to keep her weight in check.

The actual spot merely features a young mom getting the exercise bike as a Christmas gift from her husband, which could be frightening if you don't like exercise - or being controlled.

"A Peloton?!?" the spouse exclaimed in disbelief.

The ad shows the woman peddling furiously on the bike - which sells for a starting price of $2,245 - in her spacious apartment at 6 a.m. for five days in a row and concludes with her watching her year-long video diary with her husband, who wears a satisfied smile.

"I think what bothers me about the Peleton ad is the look on that woman's face throughout the commercial, like she's apologizing for her very existence on this earth".

"Her grim motivation that pushes her to drag herself out of bed combined with exclaiming at the camera how blatantly, inexplicably nervous the Peloton makes her paint a bleak portrait of a woman in the thrall of a machine created to erode her spirit as it sculpts her quads", Vice's Katie Way wrote.

The tagline is "the gift that gives back".

Others took to Twitter and mocked the ad.

"Sorry to shake issues up however I am excited to announce I am throwing my hat within the ring and becoming a member of the presidential race and operating on the one situation platform to jail everybody concerned within the pitching, scripting, appearing, capturing, and approval of the Peloton advert", author Bess Kalb reacted.

A spokeswoman for Peloton did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
