"I used to smoke two or three packs of cigarettes a day and drank whatever there was there to drink and I had pneumonia for or five times, my lung collapsed, I nearly died, so I said, 'Wait a minute, I ain't getting that high off of Chesterfields, ' so I threw out the cigarettes, rolled up 20 joints, stuck it in there, and I haven't had a cigarette since", Nelson said at the time.

"I love the bus", he said. I'm here, I'm glad to be here, ' he said. "I'm lucky to be here".

Willie Nelson is an undeniable legend, his music and personality standing the test of time and helping to make him one of the most influential country/folk musicians to ever pick up an instrument. "Your lungs are the biggest muscle you've got".

The On the Road Again singer has long spoken of what he sees as the medical benefits of pot and told Rolling Stone recently that he believes he is still alive today thanks to years of smoking marijuana.

In a recent interview with San Antonio television station KSAT, the 86-year-old Nelson said his exhausted old lungs may have had enough of the ol' "Jazz Cabbage" at this point in his life.

"Willie has not given up cannabis", a rep for the crooner told Fox News, clarifying that he just does not smoke it "at present". "Sorry!' This happened like 500 times".

Nelson has made a decision to give up smoking altogether.
