The lawsuit also claims Crump defamed Zimmerman in his new book, 'Open Season: Legalized Genocide of Colored People, ' which was published by HarperCollins on October 15, 2019.

Zimmerman is seeking at least $100 million USA in damages from Martin's parents, state prosecutors and two women whom he accused in a Polk County, Florida, lawsuit of helping provide false statements to investigators and during the trial, according to court papers.

Although a jury acquitted Zimmerman of all homicidal charges in 2013, he now seeks a sum of $100 million in civil damages, defamation, and conspiracy, according to an original report by the Miami Herald on Wednesday. After a special prosecutor investigation, Zimmerman was charged with murder. "He would have us believe that he is the innocent victim of a deep conspiracy, despite the complete lack of any credible evidence to support his outlandish claims", Crump's statement said.

Trayvon Martin's parents & their lawyer Ben Crump have responded to what they call George Zimmerman's "reckless" lawsuit, stating: "This tale defies all logic, and it's time to close the door on these baseless imaginings". "In 2015, a man named Matthew Apperson attempted to murder Zimmerman by shooting a bullet at him that missed his head by inches". Due to Flordia's archaic "stand your ground" laws, Zimmerman was found not guilty as he was protecting property. They allege that the prosecution's key witness, Rachel Jeantel, was an "imposter and fake witness" and that Benjamin Crump, the Martin family's attorney, defamed Zimmerman in the process.

On Feb. 26, 2012, Zimmerman, who was then a neighborhood watch captain in a gated community in Sanford, Florida, fatally shot Martin after the teen's trip to a convenience store to buy snacks. They also allege that Jeantel lied repeatedly in court, while Martin's supposed "real girlfriend", Brittany Diamond Eugene, "refused to bear false witness" against Zimmerman.

The details that followed remain in dispute, with Zimmerman claiming he was attacked by Martin and defended himself.

Klayman predicted that Trump could be "greater than Reagan" and later petitioned him to appoint him as a special counsel to investigate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Last July, an ethics committee of the bar in the District of Columbia recommended that Klayman's law license be suspended for more than two years. Director Joel Gilbert will appear at the conference with Klayman and Zimmerman. In 2016, he auctioned off the gun he used to kill Martin. The incident helped spark the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. A screening of the film was planned to coincide with the announcement of the lawsuit, but the Coral Gables Art Cinema pulled out after receiving complaints and learning the nature of the film.
