Baker Mayfield expects to play on Sunday: Berea Report

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield suffered a hand injury during the team's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday but is vowing to play in the next game.

Mayfield admitted the injury to his throwing hand is a bruise and the injury is "on the back side of the hand", so he still has the finger strength needed to release the ball at a proper velocity. He doesn't believe missing Wednesday will have a negative impact on Sunday's game against the 1-11 Bengals.

"Mama didn't raise a wuss", Mayfield said to reporters Wednesday.

After practice, Browns coach Freddie Kitchens said Mayfield "looked good". Yesterday was just to give a little bit of a break on some of the throws.

Mayfield injured his hand when he banged it on the helmet of Steelers linebacker Bud Dupree late in the first half last week. He played the second half while wearing a protective, supportive glove.

Through 12 games this season, Mayfield has thrown for 2,917 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Running back Nick Chubb, who leads the National Football League with 1,175 yards rushing, said it would take more than a bruised hand to keep Mayfield out. "That's one thing that without a doubt no one questions".
