While Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, has raised money by holding fundraisers with donors from Wall Street and Silicon Valley, Warren has eschewed such events and relies on grassroots fundraising from mostly small-dollar donors.

Democratic presidential candidate South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg pauses while answering a questions posed by member of the media during a campaign event Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019, at New England College in Henniker, N.H.

The man was wearing a T-shirt that said "Black Lives Matter South Bend", the newspaper reported.

Buttigieg's campaign has so far declined to respond to the criticism, NBC News reports.

The frustrations first began pouring in after Out magazine published the article, "Pete Buttigieg Volunteered for the Homophobic Salvation Army".

"Most importantly, there was a lot of folks speaking their truth", Buttigieg continued. "And we're going to continue to make sure we're elevating South Bend voices because the African Americans who know me best in our community are often the best to speak to both who I am and what we've done together". In response to her comments, the Buttigieg campaign demanded that Warren release them.

The detractor was apparently upset by the "police crisis" in town and suggested that the roughly 75 attendees should be more concerned about that.

Like Biden, Buttigieg has said he would offer public health insurance to those who want it while also maintaining private health care plans - a proposal he dubbed "Medicare for all who want it". In 2012, Salvation Army spokesperson George Hood claimed that same-sex relationships go "against the will of God".

However, the Salvation Army has pushed back at its critics' portrayal of the group as discriminatory. "Who chose these people as Black leaders?"
