Solskjaer brands Black Friday headline worst front page ever

Both players - former teammates at Manchester United - condemned the headline on social media while Roma said the newspaper would be banned from its training ground for the rest of the month.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Manchester United have offered Chris Smalling their support after he was the subject of Corriere dello Sport's 'Black Friday' headline.

They added that the ban was short because "the actual newspaper article associated with the "Black Friday" headline did portray an anti-racist message".

Lukaku and Smalling have both taken Serie A by storm since arriving in the summer, with the Belgian striker bagging 10 goals in 14 appearances for title hopefuls Inter and England global Smalling becoming an instant fan favourite in the Italian capital. "It's the worst front page I've ever seen and we've been in touch with Chris just so he knows we'll back him - and Romelu as well".

Smalling has impressed since moving to Roma, making 13 appearances in all competitions, but Solskjaer says he expects the defender to return to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

We know sometimes if you change environment it can go either way but Chris is the type to relish these challenges. Really? Is that possible?', ' Solskjaer said.

Lukaku - who left United for Inter in the summer - slammed the newspaper for "fuelling racism" while Smalling - who is on loan at Roma from United - called the headline "highly insensitive".

One such feature was run by Corriere dello Sport with the title "Black Friday", sparking a backlash among the football community due to the racially insensitive nature of the headline.

"I hope the editors involved in running this headline take responsibility and understand the power they possess through words, and the impact those words can have".

"We have been told by our colleagues in Italy that in fact inside the paper the story is about how these are old colleagues from United and have both been standing up to racism, but the front cover is at the very least clumsy".

Lukaku also released a statement saying: 'Instead of focusing on a battle between two teams, Corriere dello Sport comes with the most dumbest of headlines I have ever seen in my career.
