The 29-year-old entertainer posted a video on her Instagram announcing the news, and in the cute video, she asked her cats Meredith, Benjamin, and Olivia if she should release the song tonight.

Taylor last released Christmas music back in 2007. Her parents also appear in the visual along with her brother Austin Swift and other family and friends.

About the video, Taylor - who recently performed at The American Music Awards - wrote: "I actually did grow up on a Christmas tree farm". Watch Swift's self-directed video below.

"Under the mistletoe/ Watching the fire blow/ And telling me I love you", Swift sings.

"Okay, I know this is pretty wild, but I've just written a Christmas song", the sweater-clad singer says, feigning indecision about whether to release the song now or just wait until the 2020 holiday season.

Swift announced via social media early Thursday morning that her fans are in for a big surprise.

She captioned it: "When in doubt, ask the itty bitty pretty kitty committee. After being met with 'silence, ambivalence, and judgmental brush-offs", Taylor made a decision to just go with it.

"Christmas Tree Farm" is out now via Republic.

Taylor Swift is dropping a Christmas song just in time for the festive season, and if that wasn't enough to get you hyped for coming weeks, she's made a video to go with it - consisting of home videos for all the festive Tay Tay nostalgia we need.

"I've just written a Christmas song". "I'm proud of the things I've withstood, and I've been able to carve out a life for myself".

"I really love Christmas, I wish it was all year round, just like for the feeling that everybody has. So this is very, very cool and I'm honored to be a part of it", Lopez said. "That's one of the benefits of starting when you're 12!"
