Australia's Wade Ormsby said he hoped he had given bushfire victims something to cheer as he held off Open champion Shane Lowry to win the protest-delayed Hong Kong Open for the second time in three years yesterday (Jan 12).

The Offaly man finished 13 under par, four strokes behind Australian victor Wade Ormsby. He finished at 17-under 263 to notch a four-stroke triumph over reigning British Open champion Shane Lowry, who closed with 64 to record his best result since hoisting the Claret Jug in July.

With his victory, Wade Ormsby became the second wire-to-wire victor of the Hong Kong Open after England's Aaron Rai (2018).

"Obviously didn't get off to a great start, made a huge putt one and that kind of set the tone".

"When you get in front there's no point in trying to play defensive", said Ormsby.

"I'm not going to play conservative, I'll play the golf course exactly the same way I played it for 10-15 years and let them come at me". "So yeah, I think the game plan was the same". However, his gallant efforts were not enough to catch the Australian and he had to settle for second place.

Amateur 17-year-old Alexander Yang led the Hong Kong contingent, finishing seven under par before he will fly back to the U.S., where he is based, to start the school week. He is now the closest pursuer in -13, but still four strokes behind Ormsby.

Meanwhile, the Australian Orsmby continued his affinity for the tournament when he extended his opening rounds by 65 and 66 on Saturday with another 66.

274 - Joohyung Kim (KOR) 67-68-71-68, Angelo Que (PHI) 67-68-69-70, Prom Meesawat (THA) 67-68-69-70, Shiv Kapur (IND) 68-66-69-71.
