Sania Mirza has been shouldering the hopes of countless tennis fans throughout her illustrious career which looked to be on the verge of an end for the a year ago and a half.

After a gap of nearly 2 years, Sania Mirza made a grand comeback to the tennis court with an opening-round win in women's doubles at Hobart International on Tuesday, and this match was very special for her.

Meanwhile, Sania has made a decision to pair with compatriot Rohan Bopanna at the Australian Open as Rajeev Ram, with whom she had originally planned to play at the first Grand Slam of the season, has pulled out.

Match report How did the match pan out?

In an engaging showdown, Sania and Kichenok weren't off to a particularly good start as they double-faulted twice, failed to convert any of the seven break points that came their way and lost their serve two times to go down 2-6 in the opening set.

With the momentum on their side, the Indo-Ukrainian duo then marched ahead in the final set winning it 10-3. Sania was away from tennis for two years after becoming a mother.

Three-time doubles Grand Slam victor Mirza is making a return to competition after a two-year hiatus away from tennis, initially due to injuries and then welcoming a son in October 2018.
