Of course, Jessica Simpson's honest new memoir, Open Book, spends some time on her relationship with former husband Nick Lachey.

In her memoir, obtained by People ahead of its release, Jessica goes into great detail about why her marriage with Nick wasn't the fairytale fans had hope for. The couple then signed on to the MTV reality television show Newlyweds. The cameras nearly constantly followed the couple around just months into their marriage.

"Nick loved the fact I was so strong in my faith and that I had this wide-eyed innocent approach to life".

As they were growing up, the couple was growing apart while off-camera. "I couldn't lie to our fans and I couldn't give somebody hope that we were this ideal golden couple". "We were young and pioneering our way through reality television, always miced and always on", she wrote. She was just 22 - and famously a virgin - when they married, while the 98 Degrees singer was 28, when they walked down the aisle. "We worked and we were great at it but when it came time to being alone, we weren't great at it anymore", she writes. "He knew me as this young innocent 18-year-old that had never been introduced to the world in so many ways". I want to be very respectful because I married him for a reason and we were together for seven years for a reason.

She recalled that 'It was 7:30 in the morning and I'd already had a drink'. "Nick's very smart. He was eight years older than me, but he was also young".

As you're likely aware, Nick is now married to Vanessa Minnillo Lachey with three children of his own. Simpson is married to former National Football League player Eric Johnson, the pair shares three children together.
