However, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in an effort to remain vigilant, workers at the State Department of Health have been investigating four "novel coronavirus" cases in NY. Outbreaks of novel (new) virus infections among people are always a public health concern, but regular training prepares public health staff and partners to handle emerging disease outbreaks like the 2019-nCoV. So far more than 830 individuals are ill and 25 people have died worldwide.

"People who have traveled overseas recently and have symptoms that mimic the flu should see their doctor", New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker said in a statement.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is also working on the NY investigations. Symptoms of the 2019-nCoV include fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. The female patient traveled to Wuhan and returned on January 13.

Officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that 63 patients were under investigation in 22 states.

Currently, testing for the virus must take place at the CDC.

"The symptoms of this virus are very similar to a common cold", Cuomo said.

The current risk to New Yorkers is low, according to New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker.

The incubation period appears to be around 14 days and officials are looking at patients who traveled to Wuhan within the past two weeks.
