The Blue will provide an update on Bouwmeester's status early next week.

Following the incident, the Blues did announce that he is conscious and alert after undergoing further testing by the Ducks' physicians, according to ESPN.

Bouwmeester had a cardiac episode and collapsed on the bench during Tuesday's game in Anaheim. Armstrong said medical personnel used a defibrillator to revive him. Bouwmeester was taken to a hospital. The game was postponed. "Thanks again to everyone uninvolved at the Honda Center and the Ducks organization for their life saving efforts".

Bouwmeester will be flown back to St. Louis once he is released by the UCI Cardiology Department. The Blues players have their fathers with them during the road trip.

In a video of the collapse, Bouwmeester can be seen slumped over on the bench before he eventually falls forward and his teammates call for help. "So we FaceTimed", Pietrangelo said. But he's got his dad there, Devon (his wife) is home, our wives are reaching out. [Forward Alexander Steen's] wife went by last night. It's how our group is. We're taking care of each other. "Jay Bo is being Jay Bo, so I think it makes everyone feel a lot better".

In his 17th National Hockey League season, Bouwmeester ranks second among active defensemen with 1,241 career games played - trailing only Zdeno Chara (1,540) - and is fourth among all active players, behind Patrick Marleau (1,709) and Joe Thornton (1,622) as well as Chara.

Well-wishes immediately started to flood in through various social media channels for a player who many consider one of the best people in the game.

During the Blues matchup with the Ducks on Tuesday night, a rather scary scene unfolded in Anaheim.

"The NHL community comes together quickly in something like this", Armstrong said.
