Rick Moranis Will Return In Disney's SHRUNK

As reported by both Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, Moranis will reprise the role of bumbling inventor/family man Wayne Szalinski, having previously played the character in 1989's Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, 1992's Honey, I Blew Up the Kid and 1997's Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves.

Deadline has confirmed Moranis' involvement in Shrunk, which also features original director Joe Johnston and Josh Gad.

Moranis returning to the screen is a big deal.

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, released in 1989, went on to become one of Rick Moranis' most memorable roles.

Josh Gad and Rick Moranis will star in a new entry into the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids film franchise, according to published reports.

Moranis had a run of hits throughout the '80s and '90s, starring in films like "Parenthood", "Spaceballs", "Little Shop of Horrors", and the "Ghostbusters" franchise.

Moranis declined an offer to appear in the 2016 all-female Ghostbusters reboot; he does not seem to have been cast in the forthcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife, due for release in July. The couple shared two children - Rachel and Mitchell.

"I took a break, which turned into a longer break", he told The Hollywood Reporter in a 2015 interview. "But I'm interested in anything that I would find interesting". But to say, I get an up seat view of him returning to play one of his most iconic roles is the understatement of the Century.

Moranis' last film role was the 2006 straight-to-video sequel Brother Bear 2, though the original 2003 Brother Bear is his last movie that actually came to theaters.

"Stuff happens to people all the time, and people make adjustments, change careers, move to another city", he explained.

"I'm surprised that Disney hasn't done Honey, I Shrunk the Grandkids", he joked.
