Pixel 5 XL’s First Render Surfaces Online

Google Pixel 5 Prototype render

Google Pixel 5 Prototype render

Google is expected to finalize the design of Pixel 5 XL in about two months. We're yet to see a new iteration for the series in the form of Pixel 4a, a mid-range smartphone.

What you're looking at above is a prototype of the Pixel 5 XL that Google has apparently created, and according to Front Page Tech, it's one of three designs the company is working on. And the first render of the Google Pixel 5 XL is already here, a solid eight months before the actual launch! The other two have been reported to include a rectangular camera bump, in line with other recent flagship phones or Pixel 4 from a year ago.

Also, you can see in the close-up of the Pixel 5 XL's camera module, Google will probably take into account the feedback (read backlash) from users, as well as media, and include an ultra-wide-angle camera into its next flagship. The Pixel 5 XL boasts three sensors in a module housing that looks like an elongated semi-circle. The design you see above is just one of these prototypes.

Do let us know your thoughts on this camera design? Outside of the face that it's making, this looks to be the first Pixel phone with three rear cameras. Jon states that the design started to grow on him slightly. It can even be the case of the Pixel 5 series if this prototype gets scrapped in the future.

Besides the new design, it seems that Google will finally add a wide-angle camera on the new model. The lack of an ultra-wide-angle sensor was a big let down past year, so it's good to see it on the upcoming 2020 pixel. Especially in combination with the Google Camera app, which can do wonders.
